If you are like us, you will find any excuse to avoid the Texas summer heat. Or better yet stay cool in the heat, because let’s be real there is no avoiding that summer sun. Come with us as we explore ways to beat the heat in Buda, TX.
Stop #1 Cabela’s Aquarium
Bring the Texas outdoors in—with A/C! The aquarium at Cabela’s classifies as a magical experience in our book. Free and open to the public, your little ones will be in awe as they walk into what feels like an underwater cave while surrounded by Texas-sized local fish. As we always say bigger is better, especially when looking a catfish straight in the eyes.

Stop #2: Hays YMCA
Put your own fins on and make your way to the
Hays YMCA splash pad and pool. With 3 slides, and two water “
splashers”, it was the perfect way to cool off in this summer heat. We took advantage of the first time guest pass, but we wouldn’t mind paying to go again. Check the chart below for their fee schedule.

Stop #3: Chillax SnoCones
We all know what a snow cone is. You grab some ice, crush it, throw something sweet yummy on top and call it a day. But at Chillax, it’s truly an art and completely mandatory to stop at this spot for the true snow cone experience. Let’s just say I would never use the word fluffy to describe ice, but this ice is FLUFFY. The pillow in your mouth, sweet flavor combos of the snow cones at Chillax is a thing of dreams. I devoured the Rainbow Dreams and can’t wait to go back for more.

Stop #4: Super Slicks
Now that you have treated the kids, enjoy your own ice cold treat—grown up style! If you’re looking for a family friendly environment, great food and drinks, and an outdoor patio head down the road to Super Slicks. They make a great margarita that goes perfectly with their big plate of fajitas. Bring the family and invite your friends, there’s truly no better way to end a long day of adventures.

Fridays we’ll be posting our adventures around town. Tell us where to go next or share your own Buda adventures with us by using #visitbudatx. See you on the trail!
