Friday, February 22 is National Margarita Day and in honor of this made-up holiday, we got into the spirit by trying out every house margarita in town. We judged the margaritas on a scale of 1 to 5 for presentation, strength, taste, and smoothness.
Here are our top 5 picks for 2019 National Margarita Day
1. Jalisco’s – The Crowd Pleaser
How it’s made: Sauza Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime Juice & Orange flavored sweet and sour mix
If you are in the mood for the perfect margarita vibe, we recommend Jalisco’s. The margarita has a balanced flavor of sour and sweet and was presented in the traditional glass with salt and lime. After this visit, we know where we will be spending National Margarita Day.
2. Willie’s Joint and BBQ – The “So Fresh and So Cean Clean”
How it’s made: Juarez Tequila, Triple sec, Simple Syrup, Squeeze of lime & Splash of sweet and sour mix
A little a on the tart side, but has a refreshing clean finish. This margarita didn’t come with the traditional lime, but don’t worry, they squeezed fresh lime directly into the drink. As one of the favorites among our judges, we found ourselves asking for another round with a side of bar-bee-que.
3. Chavelo’s – The OG
How it’s made: We can’t tell you. It’s a secret recipe, but we are sure tequila is involved.
A good all-around flavor for lovers of both margaritas and Mexican food. It comes in a traditional margarita glass giving off that authentic vibe that can also be felt through the food and the classic aesthetic.
4. Nate’s – Wiener Dog Approved
How it’s made: Exotico Tequila, Orange juice, Simple syrup & Lime juice
With hand-squeezed lime and orange juice, the bartender put TLC into this drink, so we can see why this is a popular spot among the locals. This drink’s strength was it’s strength with a flavor that was fresh, raw, and refined.
5. Super Slick’s – The Slick
How it’s made: El Toro Tequila, Triple Sec, Lime Juice & Salt
This house margarita comes from a jug, but don’t let that fool you. This mix is made in house and bottled to meet the high demand for this weekend favorite. It has a gentle zest that is not too sweet, not sour, and pairs perfectly with their spicy salsa.
